Capstone

This is the blog page for my capstone hello

Just adding more keyframed shots. The process has been going pretty good, but need to smooth out some of the cuts, make them flow better together.

Above are all the animated sections from WIP 3

Work in Progress 2, there are a few more keyed out scenes here however over not much is different from wip1. There are a few more scenes that have been keyed some but are not exported out yet.

Winter Break

Render shot. Not super happy with the animation, howe

ver the effects for the blackhole are working well. I would like to better figure out the glow for the star, the background also needs to be painted better.

This is another new version of the animatic. There will likely be minor changes here and there, but I think this story works much better compared to previous versions.

Here is a redesign of the blackhole character. Had an idea that it should just be a silhouette to get across the void in space idea. The red outline reflecting how with real black holes there will often be a bright ring around them. This brightness around the blackhole is actually from the various objects being pulled into the blackhole as the objects reach very high speeds moments before getting sucked in completely. This design had the spiral and teeth to still have the feeling of the face, let it emote more, and shows how consuming is one of the only things it can still do. The blackhole would have less defined of a shape allowing for the animation to be more sporadic and wild.

Beat Boards Second Draft

Was unhappy with first animatic and decided to go back and edit the beat boards to something that felt more defined

Animatic #1

Below is my first animatic. If you watch closely you’ll notice it’s completely different from the treatment! This is because I realized I need to condense the story a bit and so you can see the differences here. A lot of this is very rough and some compositions could be improved, however this first one is mostly to make sure there is a clear story that can be followed and has helped me start thinking about the shot choices and number of shots.

Beat Boards

Logline

A robot scavenger struggling to survive in a dying city has an encounter with otherworldly creatures.

Treatment

A giant metallic ball floats in space; there are empty patches throughout the sphere, revealing jagged rods. Bright white lights cover the sphere, but lessen closer to the damaged areas.

Now on the surface, a cement field stretches into the distance. Far off into the distance are metal structures of various shapes and sizes. In the field of cement are many small holes with tall iron rods jutting out of them. A figure can be seen moving across the field. As we get closer the figure is revealed to be a small one-eyed robot, slowly limping along. The robot is holding a long metal stick with a dish at the end of it. As the robot swings the stick back and forth a display flashes red as the dish points to different iron rods. Eventually the display turns green and the robot moves toward the rod. It collapses as it reaches the rods with a stretched out arm. Electricity sparks from the rod to the arm of the robot. The robot's eye enlarges as it stands upright. It walks away no longer limping, but as it gets further away from the rod a bright light begins to shine next to it. The robot stops to look back at the light, but is quickly interrupted by a large cubed ship rising in the distance. From the ship a large spotlight begins to shine scanning the ground. The One-eyed robot begins to run away reaching a patch of large cement blocks. The robot begins to enter the darkness, but turns around to see the light once more. As it looks closer the light begins to take shape and soon is recognizable as a small glowing humanoid creature floating in the air as it inspects the rod touched by the robot. The creature looks up and makes eye contact with the robot. The robot's awe is interrupted as the large box ship appears behind the robot with its light shining on the robot. It turns around but is met with a blast of electricity from the ship. As the robot falls we see light next to the rod vanish.

The robot opens and looks around. It realizes it is in a hanging cage suspended over a dark void. There are several other cages surrounding the robot and a catwalk cutting through the open space. As the robot looks around it discovers the cage next to it is also holding an individual. A lanky man sits curled in the cage corner, a rage covering his torso, and a large cylindrical helmet sits on his head, with a single eye left uncovered. The man begins to speak with the robot. As he talks he becomes more maniac and rises in his cage as he begins to reach upwards. The robot backs away in its cage, visibly frightened. Out of the corner of its eye a light begins to shine. The robot looks over to see the floating creature once more positioned above the catwalk. The creature smiles at the robot. The man in the other cage dramatically swings around to face the robot's empty cage; there is also no light shining above the catwalk.

The one-eyed robot opens its eye again, this time in an open space. Across from it floats the glowing creature. As the two stand across from each other the robot begins to reach out. Suddenly a crash pulls its attention away from the creature. The robot turns to see nothing and after a second turns back to look at the glowing creature. By the time the robot turns back the creature has vanished. However as the robot begins to turn away it sees something in the corner. Laying on the ground is the floating creature, splayed out and unconscious. Above the creature stands a new humanoid creature, This creature takes on the look of an adult male with long squared hair and a visor covering his face. The visor man gives a small grin before blasting off into the air.

The lanky man still locked in the cage begins violently rocking in his cage, head swinging side to side. He throws his head back while his hands claw at his helmet as his eye shimmers. He throws his hands up to the sky where a streak of light can be seen.

The visor man shoots through the air crashing through several boxed structures and boxed ships. The man then shoots into the air. As he reaches his peak we turns his attention back towards the ground. He begins to fall and crashes into the ground. The man claws through several different layers of metal structures and rooms, until he reaches a jelly-like substance. As he begins to pull himself through the jelly, a small metal ball becomes visible. He eventually reaches the metal ball, grabs two of the metal plates, and begins to pull them apart. As the metal is pulled apart light shins from the opening and the jelly substance begins to boil. Once the opening is large enough the man slips through. The inside of the ball is pure white. The man enters view while looking towards the center of the sphere. As he moves forward, the center of the sphere can be seen. A small infant lay floating shining bright white. The man takes the infant in his arms bringing it closer to his face. As the infant is brought up his mouth begins to open. Cut to credits.

Project proposal

Below is the original proposal pitch I made. As part of the capstone proposal process we had to complete this form exploring the capstone idea we were considering. A lot of this packet is has been changed or shifted and so is pretty inaccurate, however I think it’s still interesting to see where the idea started. the ending sequence also remained relatively unchanged (written as of 2nd treatment writing)
